Not Your Typical Church
"God has put it in our hearts and vision to be more than another community church," says Steve Foss, Senior Pastor of the Upper Room. "Praise God for the local community church, we need them, but that is not who we are. We firmly believe God has ordained for something much bigger than that."
It has been engrafted in the core of the Upper Room, to be sold out radical for God and His purpose. This means being a little edgier, more passionate, and unashamedly bold about the things of God. Whether it is expressive worship, revelation Word that challenges the status quo, or miracles and manifestations of the Spirit. The Upper Room is proving to the region that it is possible to be a large church, without shying away from the move of the Holy Spirit, or the convicting truth of the Gospel.
At the Upper Room, it is our deep desire to create a welcoming atmosphere for you to be refreshed, grow in Christ, and become who God has called you to be. Through our various ministries and discipleship programs, it is our prayer that you too will step into a new level of breakthrough in your own life, and that you would be empowered to bring that breakthrough to somebody else.
About Pastor Steve Foss
Steve Foss is a carrier of revival fire and travels the nations of the world seeing multitudes changed by the power of God's presence. Through the Holy Spirit, he is impacting this next generation through the Word of God with signs and wonders following. God has graced him with a unique gift of wisdom that allows him to operate in apostolic and prophetic anointings. This grace is helping to lead the body of Christ back to a restoration of her foundations. His passions are to prepare the church so that God's glory may once again fill His temple and to raise a prophetic army that will gather the harvest.
Surrounded by an undesirable lifestyle, Steve became involved in drugs and alcohol at a young age. His addictions were so strong that he was even stealing and dealing to pay for them. At age 17, during his senior year of high school, the school called his mother and asked her to drop him out or else he would be permanently expelled. He continued deeper into drugs, alcohol, and partying and in January of 1986, almost had a nervous breakdown.
Steve decided to go back to school and on May 2, 1986 during a college campus revival, he gave his heart to Jesus and was instantly delivered from five years of drug addiction. God completely took the desire for those things out of his heart forever.
Two days later Steve had another miraculous encounter with God. While on his knees praying, God spoke to Steve and said, "I have called you to preach my gospel..." Steve said, "Yes Lord, I will." He was then gloriously, baptized in the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues. He began to passionately seek God by studying His Word and praying daily for hours. Step by step, God began to lead and teach him. In 1988, he held his first Bible study and after only 17 months, Steve saw over 500 people answer the altar calls. After that, he started five more campus outreaches touching over 120 youth every week.
In 1990, God opened the door for Steve to help create Young Warriors, a very successful ministry under Morris Cerullo World Evangelism. By 1993, he began traveling internationally and saw God work tremendously. He has ministered to millions and has seen multitudes saved and even more baptized in the Holy Spirit around the world. As a revivalist, Steve has lead 2 long term revivals, one lasting 25 months in Crystal Springs, Mississippi. More than 250,000 people have now completed his one-year discipleship course. God has also used Steve to train over 80,000 pastors and leaders in various schools of ministry from more than 70 nations. Pastor Steve Foss is now the senior Pastor of the Upper Room Church in Keller, Texas where God continues to move mightily with signs and wonders following.
What We Believe
The Bible is the inspired and only infallible and authoritative written Word of God (2 Timothy 3:16).
There is one God, eternally existent in three persons: God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit (Deuteronomy 6:4; Matthew 28:19).
In the deity of our Lord Jesus Christ, in His virgin birth, in His sinless life, in His vicarious and atoning death, in His bodily resurrection, in His ascension to the right hand of the Father, in His personal, future return to this Earth in power and glory (John 3:16; Acts 1:9-11; Romans 1:3-6).
In the blessed hope - the rapture of the Church at Christ's coming (Titus 2:13).
The only means of being cleansed from sin is through repentance and faith in the precious blood of Christ (John 14:6).
Regeneration by the Holy Spirit is absolutely essential for personal salvation (Titus 3:5).
In water baptism by immersion (Matthew 28:19).
The redemptive work of Christ on the cross provides healing of the human body in answer to believing prayer (1 Peter 2:24)
The baptism in the Holy Spirit, according to Acts 2:4, is given to believers who ask for it.
In the sanctifying power of the Holy Spirit by whose indwelling the Christians are enabled to live a holy life. (Galatians 5:16-25).
In the resurrection of both the saved and the lost, the one to everlasting life and the other to everlasting damnation. (Revelation 20:11-15).
Our Vision: To raise up an army to go forth into their spheres of influence, preaching the Gospel, with a demonstration of signs and wonders following.
History - How We Got Here
In the fall of 2008, Pastor Steve Foss had a divine encounter that forver changed his life. While talking to one of his sons late at night, the Lord beckoned him outside. Upon stepping outside, he had a vision of a large church sanctuary packed with spirit-filled believers, strong in the Word of God, and fully committed to the things of God. He then saw many angels whom he recognized from a revival he led in California over 5 years before. The Lord spoke to him, asking him to start a church. Within a very short period of time, several other divine confirmations followed, doors opened, a way was made, and Pastor Steve and Carrie Foss launched the Upper Room on Easter Sunday, April 12th, 2009.
Despite having nearly no local connections and little advertising, the church exploded, growing to over 250 by the end of the first year, over 600 by the end of the second year, and nearly 1000 at the start of the third year. What is even more incredible than the numeric growth, is the spiritual growth. Breakthroughs in worship, the Word, and in the altar calls have set the Upper Room Church apart as a large church that is unabashedly spirit-filled, rooted in the Word, and passionate about worship.
Now God has entrusted us with the great vision and responsibility of worldwide impact. With over 1000 churches worldwide under our spiritual covering, the 20000souls.com Campaign seeing dozens of salvations every week, and churches and leaders all over the world going through our discipleship course, we are just beginning to step into the regional, and global impact God has for us.
As exciting as numbers can be, what really excites and motivates us is seeing the Kingdom of God advanced and lives transformed. It is not about a man, a personality, a church, or a ministry; it is about His Church and His Kingdom coming to Earth and His will being done on Earth as it is in Heaven.
